In The News Over the summer...Baine Ellis and Austin Sargent co-directed Godspell Jr. at the Harris County Ensemble Theatre Summer Camp. Assisting them were Tajh Oates and Katie Smith (Stage Managers), Katherine Ambrester and Bianca Alomar(Musical Directors), Cameron Stecencko (Sound Operator), Dustin Dasinger (Spotlight), and Kim Traylor, Sarah Correnti, Mason Frost, Ashley Peterson, Sally Swanson, and Tori Hitchcock (Costumes/Props/Scenery).Tajh Oates, Katherine Ambrester, Bianca Alomar, Austin Sargent, Jeremy Miller, Baine Ellis, and Cameron Stecenko represented Troupe #6575 at the International Thespian Festival held in Lincoln, Nebraska. Bianca competed in the NIES Individual Event Competition, where she recieved a Superior Rating for her performance of "The Past is Another Land" from Aida. Four of the delegates also auditioned for colleges in various aspects of theatre: Baine Ellis (Acting), Katherine Ambrester (Musical Theatre), Tajh Oates (Technical Theatre), and Austin Sargent (Theatre Management). All four recieved several callbacks from colleges all across the country.Sydney Lyman, Ragan Lyman, and Amber Terrell worked as technicians for the Lafayette Society for the Performing Arts' production of Shakespeare Abridged, directed by Jeff Sargent.

Welcome to Harris County Theatre!

Theatre. The word itself comes from the Greeks and means the seeing place. It is an art form that allows an onlooker to become actively involved in a time, place, or situation that one may not be able to experience in their lifetime. It is a celebration of life and creativity. Its goal is simple: to evoke change. The Harris County Theatre Department adopts this same ambition. We are a unified body that works tirelessly to create and present, to entertain and inspire, to engage and, ultimately, to bring about change. Our productions are not simply plays. They are the combination of the hearts and souls of each an every person on stage and backstage.

Awards & Recognitions

ITS

The International Thespian Society is a worldwide organization that acknowledges and awards excellence in educational theatre. Students gain status and notoriety in the organization through their involvement with their high school theatre department's productions. Students begin as Apprentices and, when they gain enough experience, may achieve full membership and even serve as a Troupe or state official. As a Troupe, the members gain theatre knowledge and respect for the art by attending plays produced by other schools and theatre companies in the area. Students involved also gain the opportunity to be involved in numerous troupe events which include, but are not limited to: field days, movie nights, bowling nights, original fundraisers, and community service opportunities with the Ronald McDonald House and Relay for Life The Troupe meets once a month. There is a $10 membership fee for each year a student serves as an Apprentice and a one-time fee of $25 to become a full member in the Troupe once the student has gained enough experience points.
